Overview

• Lyophilized Real-Time PCR mix for the detection and quantification of BKV The human polyomaviruses BK Virus (BKV, Polyomavirus hominis 1) is ubiquitous in human populations worldwide. Primary infection with BK generally occurs in early childhood without specific symptoms, with a seroprevalence up to 85% of adults infected globally. BKV is an urotheliotropic virus that becomes latent in the urinary tract after primary infection. BKV reactivation mostly occurs in permissive cells, including renal tubular epithelial cells and the transitional cells of the lower urinary tract. Active replication in the urinary tract typically correlates with a state of immunoincompetence. In the context of immunosuppressive therapy, BKV can cause nephropathy in renal transplant recipients, resulting in tubulointerstitial lesions known as polyomavirus-associated nephropathy or BKV nephropathy and hemorrhagic cystitis in hematopoietic stem cell transplant recipients. STAT-NAT® BKV kit proved its effectiveness for the detection and quantification of BKV DNA in urine, plasma and whole blood samples.
